Hershey Mr. Goodbar

The Mr. Goodbar has been an iconic American chocolate bar since the 1920's but it has fallen on hard times. Unfortunately Hershey has messed with the recipe over the years in the interests of keeping the price down by decreasing the amount of chocolate till its not a chocolate bar. The chocolate and very peanuty aroma is still the same from my youth while the flavor is very salty and tastes of roasted peanuts which are crunchy. Its not bad tasting bar just not as chocolatey as before.

Grade: C. If only Hershey would come out with limited edition original recipe retro candy bars. 250 calories/bar.

Milka Chocolate Creme

Day 51.
As part of my Valentines Day presents I received various chocolates to aid me on my year long quest. One of these was The Milka. I had not heard of the Milka brand but the chocolate is made in Germany and was bought in 1990 by Kraft. It was created in 1901 by Swiss chocolatier Philippe Suchard. (W) The package invites me to a smooth, rich flavor of Alpine milk.

Appearance: B Pale chocolate with faint scoring. The cremey center stands out from the milk chocolate coating.
Aroma: B+ Aroma of sweet milk chocolate
Texture: A- Melts in your mouth feel. Creme layer was very soft
Flavor: C- Not much flavor and too much sweetness in the creme layer. The milk chocolate was very creamy with an underwhelming chocolate tast

Calories: 250 cal/serving.
Package contains 2.5 servings. 3.52 oz.

Rating: C (Pass on this one)
Comments: I am not a big fan of chocolate creme and this bar didn't change my mind. The chocolate coating was nice. I would like to try the plain Milka bar

Hershey's Special Dark with Almonds

Day 39.
When I was younger and my parents would buy a bag of Hershey miniatures these would always be the last to be eaten. As the years have gone by my taste for darker chocolates has expanded to some extent but I still prefer sweet milk chocolate! On the Hershey website its advertised as the Dark Chocolate for Milk Chocolate Lovers and gives nutritional information and the amounts of antioxidants.

Appearance: Thin very dark bar with almonds mixed in. No almonds visible from the top.
Aroma: Bitter dark chocolate
Texture: Snaps nicely with good crunch to almonds. Minimal melt in your mouth creaminess
Flavor: Tastes of dark bitter chocolate with a hint of sweetness. Its made with 45% cacao.

Calories: 190 cal/serving. One bar. 1.45 oz. 45% Cacao.

Rating: C+ (Average but I don't like dark chocolate)
Comments: An ok bar if you like dark chocolate. I don't think I would try an other bars over 45% cacao as they would be too bitter!

Nestle Crunch Crisp

Day 5. One of my favorite chocolate bars of days gone past is the Nestle Crunch. After adding the crisp, I figured this would be a Kit Kat/Nestle Crunch mixture. Consisting of baked wafers, crisped rice and chocolate creme this reminded me of the old chocolate creme cookies.

History: Created in 2007.

Appearance: It was in two pieces but the cookie had a slightly green touch to it...very weird!
Aroma: Smells like weak cocoa
Texture: Crunchy crisp wafer. The chocolate melts in your hands.
Flavor: Not very chocolatey with artificial tasting creme.
Calories: 190 cal/package. 1.34 oz.

Comments: Weird looking wrapper and not very chocolaty. Good idea but I would have added more milk chocolate and more crisped rice.

Reece's Pieces

Day 3.
Reece's pieces were amazing when I was younger. It was a blast of sugary peanut butter and mixed with a handful of M&M's even better.

History: They were created in 1978 but didn't hit it big until after E.T. when you would find these everywhere. Most people think that Hershey stole the manufacturing process from Mars who makes M&M's but actually Hershey sold Mars the original machines needed to make M&M's.(5,6)



Appearance: Colorful brown, orange and yellow pieces. The colors don't seem as bright as when I was younger which may just be my older eyes.
Aroma: None but when cracked smell of peanut butter.
Texture: Very crisp when eaten!
Flavor: Very sweet with a light taste of peanuts.
Calories: 220 cal/package. 1.53oz

Rating: C+
Comments: Very addicting but I am a sugaraholic.
