Milka Alpine Milk
In February I had a Milka with chocolate creme filling which I was not too crazy about. But then I am not a fan of creme flavoring. So I decided to try the milk chocolate version of the Milka. The bar is very light appearing. I took several pictures with the flash on to get the lettering to stand out. The flavor is very milky with not much chocolate or hazelnut present. There is a burnt sugar taste of toffee present. The bar melts very slowly in your mouth unlike other milk chocolate bars.
Grade: D+. Pass on this one unless this is your only chocolate option. That is 0 for 2 for Milka. Calories: 230 cal/serving. Package contains 2.5 servings.

Cadbury Caramello
In February I had a Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel imported from Britain. The Cadbury Caramello is made under license by Hershey in the USA. This two serving bar has the same light brown color as the Dairy milk but is scored into smaller sections. Same milky sweet aroma. Very similar so far but now it changes. The caramel is not as sweet or milky but just as chewy. The chocolate is not as sweet or milky and more cocoa like. I definitely prefer the British version!
Grade: C+. One serving has 200 calories. 2.5 servings/bar.

Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats
America's favorite cereal snack has been available in small serving sizes for many years. The bar is small, low calorie compared to other candy bars, and there is not preparation. Sweet marshmallow aroma which when bitten has a nice crunch but is still chewy. Flavor of marshmallow and butter like.
Grade: A- Yummy. The only thing better is the homemade variety which have an even more buttery taste. Serving size one bar which has 90 calories.

Nestle Butterfinger
The Butterfinger is an all American classic first made by Curtiss in 1923. Very similar to the Fifth Avenue I ate in February. The Butterfinger has a very strong peanut butter and butter aroma with the chocolate playing second fiddle. The texture is crunchy and crisp. Strong peanut butter flavor with hints of molasses.
Grade: B+. Don't lay a hand on my Butterfinger! Calories 270 per bar.

Perugina Caramel
Perugina is an Italian chocolate company owned by Nestle. The Perugina Caramel is a dark chocolate bar with a caramel filling. Dark chocolate aroma come out of this nice looking dark brown scored bar. Very strong bittersweet chocolate covering sweet milky caramel. The sweetness works well with the dark chocolate. From now on I want my dark chocolate with caramel! My first bar from Perugina was a hit.
Grade:B+ 160 calories/serving. Three servings per bar.

Hershey's Milk Chocolate
The Great American Chocolate Bar is old time wrapping purchased from Cracker Barrel. Appearance is the same brown color that I associate with Hersheys. The bar and taste have not changed since the early 1900's. The only difference is the new emulsifier derived from castor beans. Soy lecithin is still used like in the original formula made by Milton Hershey. Creamy and soft feel in the mouth with a sweet milky taste.
Grade: B+. 240 calories/serving. 2.5 servings per container.

Cumberland Ridge Pecan Roll
Pecan rolls are usually not my cup of tea but they were on sale at Walgreen's. This one is a combination of mostly nougat with caramel on the outside to keep the pecans on. The nougat is slightly grainy with a cherry milky taste. The pecans are fresh and crunchy. The aroma is very sweet and of burnt milk.
Grade: D+. Way too sweet and the flavor is a very slightly burnt milk like.

Wonka Runts
We take a break from my regularly scheduled chocolate to eat some Runts which were given to me. No aroma with a waxy outer layer. The flavors were sour green apple and sour grape. Nice combination of sweet and sour flavored sugar. Pretty good but I still prefer Sweet Tarts.
Grade B. Serving Size 12 pieces/60 calories. 11 servings per container. 660 per box...Wow!

Mars
This the Dutch version of the Milky Way. Unfortunately my bar was slightly crushed on my way to work. The Mars is an attractive bar with milk chocolate overlying layers of nougat and caramel. The chocolate had a sweet aroma and was nicely sweetened. The caramel and chewy. Very nice tasting Milky Way...I mean Mars.
Grade: B+. 230 calories/bar.

Boyer Mallo Cup
The Mallo Cup is a famous candy bar of yesteryear so when I found it at Cracker Barrel I had to try it. Overall I was not too impressed with it.
The cups look like Reese's except that you can see the ripple of coconut in the top. Nice chocolate aroma but both the cups were stuck to the paper. The coconut taste and grtty feel was overwhelming and I am not a big fan of coconut. After eating you feel the coconut in your mouth for awhile afterward. The chocolate was milky and creamy and when you ate to the bottom of the cup the flavors were good until I ate some paper.
Grade D+. If only it was a marshmallow and chocolate only cup. Leave the coconut behind! 2 pieces have 200 calories.

Georgia's Chocolate Double Dipped Peanuts
I found Georgia's Chocolate Double Dipped Peanuts at Cracker Barrel recently in their old timey candy section. This is the first time I have heard of these. The double dipping causes the shell outside the peanut to be very thick. There are two servings in the bag and all the peanuts were fresh tasting and crunchy. The chocolate was on the slightly less sweet side.
Grade: B-. Nice tasting chocolate covered peanuts. Maybe a little better tasting than Goobers. 220 calories per serving. Two servings per bag.

Nestle KitKat Chunky
Another of my melted chocolate bars from my excursion to World Market. The plentiful chocolate was well sweetened and had a great aroma. The giant wafer cookie (much better than the smaller ones in the regular KitKat) was sweet and had a good snap. Despite the melting it held its shape well.
Grade: A-. Very good tasting bar. I like the UK chunky version better than the American version. 264 calories/bar. Made with chocolate and cocoa butter and natural emulsifiers.

Reese's Dark
Dark bitter chocolate with peanut aroma which has a good mix of sweet peanut butter and dark chocolate taste when first eaten. Afterword's a taste of dark bitter chocolate remains in your mouth. If dark chocolate is your thing then you would probably like this version of the peanut butter cup. I prefer the original. The peanut butter is excellent.
Grade: C+. 210 calories per package (2 cups). Made with real chocolate but one of the emulsifiers is PGFR.

Nestle Aero
It was my fault this time that my chocolate was melted. Two of the bars I have eaten this year have looked like lava flows. You will notice that the bar is a little melted as I left it in the trunk for a tiny bit after shopping at World Market which has an amazing selection of European candy.
The Aero is a real whipped chocolate bar made in the UK. Nice cocoa aroma and good chocolate taste but I am not to crazy about the open air honeycombing. Feels like I am being cheated out of chocolate :) And it still 246 calories per bar.
Grade: C. Good flavor but left me with an empty feeling. Much better than the other honeycombed bar that I ate though which was the Cadbury Crunchie.

Milky Way Bar Simply Caramel
Another Milky Way line extension from Mars. Delicious flavor combination of milk chocolate and caramel with a hint of the yummy Milky way flavor. The chocolate was nicely sweetened and the caramel was abundant, chewy and milky. Defintely one of the better line extensions.
Grade: A. Definitely recommend. Better than the regular Milky Way. 250 calories in one bar.

Cadbury Buttons
White chocolate buttons by Cadbury/Kraft and imported by British Delights. Very sweet and mildly chocolate tasting buttons from one of my favorite companies. Lets hope Kraft doesn't mess it up. They melt in your mouth but as expected not too much chocolate flavor. As far as white chocolate goes these are one of the best.
Grade: B+. Recommend in small quantities. 1 bag has 180 cal.

Nestle Carlos V
A new candy bar in the USA from Nestle. The Carlos V is a solid small chocolate bar like a mini Hershey's. Nice chocolate aroma and creamy melt in mouth feeling is noted. It has a milky-buttery chocolate taste with a hint of dark bitter chocolate. Residue presence on the surface of the bar.
Grade: D. The taste of butter was overpowering. Definitely does not taste like Mexican chocolate aka Abuelita. One bar has 180 calories.

Ghirardelli Chocolate Luxe Milk
I was expecting quite a bit from the famous Ghirardelli and I wasn't disappointed. The solid chocolate bar was creamy, smooth and nicely sweetened. Nice appearance and sweetened perfectly...This is what the Hershey bar should be.
Grade: A-. Best solid chocolate bar to date. 190 calories per serving. 2.5 servings per bar.

Lindt Lindor Truffles
As you can tell by the photo my Lindor Truffle didn't do so well. I expect melting to happen in El Paso in the summer but I bought this is March. So how did my first non-Toberlone Swiss chocolate experience go? The chocolate was smooth and creamy and had a nice dairy like chocolate aroma. Initial too sweet chocolate burst followed by hint of dark chocolate bitterness. Oh yea and it looked liked crap and had to be scraped off the paper.
Grade: D+. I prefer the taste of American and British chocolate but again not a fair evaluation. I will try Lindt again. 240 calories per serving/2.5 per package.

Ghirardelli Chocolate Intense Dark Toffee Interlude Serving 2
The Ghirardelli Chocolate Company is a United States division of Swiss candymaker Lindt & Sprüngli. The company was founded by and is named after Italian chocolatier Domingo Ghirardelli, who, after working in South America, moved to California. The Ghirardelli Chocolate Company was incorporated in 1852, and is the second-oldest chocolate company in the United States, after Baker's Chocolate. The prior is from Wikipedia.
I always thought the company originated in San Francisco but the first store was in Stockton California.

Ghirardelli Chocolate Intense Dark Toffee Interlude
Ghirardelli Chocolate Intense Dark Toffee Interlude is a chocolate bar with a long name. The flavor is dark and intense as is the bitter chocolate aroma. The toffee is crunchy and buttery with bits of almonds.
Grade: C+. Not bad for a dark chocolate bar. It must have been the toffee. 190 calories/bar. 2.5 servings per package.
